The Mechanical Design for this library included heating, ventilating and plumbing for the existing historical building and a 2-story addition that houses meeting rooms, a new circulation desk, a children's reading area, and a kitchen. Ventilation is provided by two air handling units and heating is provided by Runtal radiation. Two high efficiency cast iron oil-fired boilers provide hot water heating.
Kohler and Lewis collaborates with architects to provide mechanical systems that blend with a building's design. Challenges such as exposed ceilings trusses, existing historical structure, large glass exteriors or minimal mechanical space have often been the case in jobs such as this one; however, the end result is a comfortable, spacious renovation that works for the owner and meets the community's needs.
