
Mount Anthony Union Middle School is a new 150,000sf state-of-the-art facility designed for over 900 students. The building is designed to create schools within schools in an effort to provide the most appropriate setting for middle school age children. The design also employs the latest technologies in energy efficiency and indoor air quality while at the same time utilizing durable time-tested materials in a sensible way.
Heating is provided by a 180HP Hurst boiler burning woodchips. The woodchip system was furnished by Messersmith Energy. Two oil fired Bryan boilers provide 100% backup.
Classroom ventilation is provided by unit ventilators. The system is designed to provide 15 cfm per person. The cafeteria and gymnasium are ventilated using air handling units equipped with variable speed drives that automatically adjust the ventilation rate to correspond to the occupancy using carbon dioxide levels as an indicator.
